Jolt Stickhandling Curriculum

Our stick curriculum focuses on achieving mastery at each developmental stage rather than exposing players to every movement at once. By emphasizing the most effective skills appropriate for each age, we give athletes the best opportunity to develop confidently and succeed long-term.

  • Skills we teach at Jolt to beginners of game or littles who need constant reminders. This is expected to be learned before 10U hockey begins.

    • Stick holding posture

    • Stationary Dribbles

    • Stationary Lateral Push/Pulls

    • Stationary Strongside Vertical Push/Pulls

  • Skills we teach at Jolt to novices of game or littles who has been in the game for few years but has not reached full-ice games yet. This is expected to be learned before 10U hockey ends.

    • Understanding stick range and handling pockets

    • Single Arm Puck Control

    • Multi-directional Dribbles

    • Dynamic Lateral Push/Pulls

    • Stationary Figure 8 Cradle (Horizontal & vertical)

    • Stationary Tucks and Recovery

    • Sweep Passes and Receives

    • Puck Cradling (during turns and pass receptions)

  • Expectation for youth players, this is the expected workload and skills learned at Jolt during 12-14U years.

    • Dynamic Dribble Combos (jab steps, crossover movements, half-pulls)

    • Stationary Detached Pulls

    • Dynamic Figure 8 Cradle (Horizontal & vertical)

    • Stationary Weakside Dribbles and Backhand Cradle Receives

    • Dynamic Tucks and Recovery

    • 1-Touch Passes (bump pass) and Receives.

    • Stationary Passing Accuracy

    • Ball/Puck Juggles (hand-eye coordination I)

    • Stick Battle IQ (lifting sticks, take contact, etc.)

  • Expectation for youth players, this is the expected workload and skills learned at Jolt by end of 14U.

    • Dynamic Handling Combos (utilizing dribbles, push/pulls, tucks, toe-drags/slips in multi-directional patterns)

    • Dynamic Detached Pulls and Protect (with either arm)

    • 10 and 2 Puck Movement

    • Dynamic Weakside Dribbles and Backhand 1-Touch Receives

    • Toe-Drag Movements (Including puck chipping)

    • Elevated (Saucer) Passes, Puck Chipping with Toe

    • Dynamic Passing Accuracy

    • Puck Tip-downs (hand-eye coordination II)

  • Expectation for youth players, this is the expected workload and skills learned at Jolt during 14U-HS.

    • Deceptive Handling Combos (utilizing dribbles, push/pulls, tucks, toe-drags/slips in multi-directional patterns while mixing in false movements)

    • Speed Handling I (handling efficiency at top upper body speeds)

    • 1-Touch Redirects

    • Puck Rolling, Triangle Dribbles

    • Poke/Sweep Checks into Body Contact

    • Face-off Variations

    • Puck Reception with Feet or Hands (hand-eye coordination III)

  • Expectation for youth players, this is the expected workload and skills learned at Jolt 16U+.

    • Poke/Sweep Check Interceptions

    • Advanced Puck Protection (utilizing body contact)

    • Passes through multiple obstacles, narrow paths

    • Deceptive Receptions (false cradles)

    • Speed Handling II (handling efficiency at top body movement speeds)

    • Through the Leg Movements

    • Puck Hop Movements, Including Puck Chipping, with blade heel

Jolt Shooting Clinic Curriculum

There are many ways a player can put the puck in the net. This curriculum systematically teaches the full range of shot mechanics, then guides players to identify and develop the shot that best suits their playing style. The goal is to sharpen those high-value scoring options and turn them into reliable, competitive weapons throughout the season.

  • Not quite with a puck yet! Here’s what a beginner will learn before firing biscuits. Targeting 6-8U littles trying to send the puck into the net!

    • Sweep Passes with Power

    • General Accuracy

  • Targeting players aged 8–12 and adult learners seeking to build confidence in power and elevation with their shots. While learning a couple new ones!

  • Targeting players aged 12+ and adult learners who already know the basics and want to fine-tune their scoring ability. Adding in a couple of shot variations as well.

    • Backhand Snap-Shots, Wrist-shots

    • Shooting through Traffic

    • Deke Releases

    • Off-Foot Releases

    • Soft Pass 1-Timers (shooting hand-eye coordination I)

    • Rebounding

  • Targeting players aged 14+ and adult players who already mastered the basics and want to have tools for every option.
